Son Doong is located in Quang Binh Province, Vietnam and found firstly by a local man named Ho Khanh in 1991. Its name “Son Doong” means “mountain river cave” because Son Doong Cave was created 2-5 million years ago by river water eroding away the limestone underneath the mountain where the limestone was weak, the ceiling collapsed creating huge skylights.

Son Doong Cave is over 5 kilometers in length, with sections reaching up to 200 meters in height and 150 meters in width, and a total volume of 38.5 million cubic meters. Being the world’s largest cave, Son Doong also contains a river systems and a tropical forest inside cave. It is enough mysterious and immense to make tourists overwhelmed. Its beauty is considered as deserves with dangerous level that travelers must face when exploring inside. In roof of the cave with height of 200 meters, the view is extremely magnificent. With images of Eden in the cave, giant stalactite walls or the collection of ten thousand years old “pearls”, visitors will be shocked with an incredible wonder of Son Doong Cave. The “waterfall” light echo from the surface down, reveal smooth and flat stalactite columns, with strange shapes in the cave Loong Con. The explorers called it the Cactus Garden.

Another special thing of Son Doong Cave is big difference between the cold air inside cave and hot air outside cave which creates fog covering cave, makes scene in cave become incredibly magical. During the day, the rays of light from above which crept over the cliff in the cave will make you feel like you are standing at the entrance of paradise in earth. The best time to visit Son Doong cave is from November to April. This time is dry season, which is safety time to explore Ken cave with shallow ponds. In rainy season, underground rivers rise, submerge all the way.
